Choose it if

  • You find the middle of the face nearly every time and want control from a compact head.
  • You play left-handed: it was made left-handed.

Choose something else if

  • You need a senior flex: PING G740, senior (A) flex in stock, 5.0 of 5.
  • For more help on a mishit, the ZX5 Mk II from the same family has a wider sole and more offset, and Srixon's ZXiR is today's game improvement iron.

What changed in the ZXi7

Srixon kept the ZX7 Mk II's lofts and lies in the ZXi7, club for club: a 32° 7-iron, a 46° PW, a 51° AW and a 57° SW. The offset is the same from the 7-iron down (2.8 mm at the 7-iron) and a touch more in the ZXi7's long irons (3.7 mm in the 3-iron against 3.5 mm). Srixon lists every ZXi7 club a quarter inch longer, but says only the way it measures length changed. Srixon forges the ZXi7 in a steel it calls softer and adds tungsten, and its stock shaft moved from Nippon's Modus3 Tour 120, in stiff, to True Temper's Dynamic Gold Mid 115, in regular or stiff. Srixon's charts rate both low to mid for forgiveness.

Srixon no longer sells the ZX7 Mk II, so a set is bought used, for far less than a new ZXi7 with the same lofts. Choose a used ZX7 Mk II if you strike it well and find one in your hand and flex; choose the ZXi7 for a new set, or for a regular-flex shaft as stock.

Head to head: Srixon ZX7 Mk II vs ZX5 Mk II irons

Loft, lie and length, club by club

As Srixon published them
Club Loft Lie Length Offset

4-iron 22° 60.5° 38.5 in 3.3 mm
5-iron 25° 61° 38 in 3.2 mm
6-iron 28° 61.5° 37.5 in 3 mm
7-iron 32° 62° 37 in 2.8 mm

AW 51° 63.5° 35.5 in 1.4 mm
SW 57° 63.5° 35.5 in 0.8 mm

After the approach wedge (AW, 51°): with a 56° sand wedge, the gap is 5°.

Callaway's iron fitting guide puts your first wedge 4° to 6° above the highest-lofted wedge in your iron set. A gap in degrees is not a gap in yards. To choose that wedge, see the forgiving wedges by loft and bounce.

Use the iron finder to compare sets for your usual miss, and check the set makeup and loft gaps before ordering.

ZX7 Mk II: the questions buyers ask

Is the Srixon ZX7 Mk II forgiving?
Hardly: no set here scores lower. It is Srixon's players iron, with 2.8 mm of offset at the 7-iron and a 32° 7-iron. It scores 1.0 of 5 on our reading of what Srixon publishes about it; the most forgiving iron sets we cover score 5.0.
Who is the ZX7 Mk II for?
It suits good strikers who want control from a compact head more than help on a mishit. Srixon aims it at low handicaps.
Does the ZX7 Mk II come in senior or ladies flex?
No. Srixon listed stiff (S) and extra stiff (X).
Is the ZX7 Mk II sold left-handed?
Left-handed from the 3-iron to the PW; the 51° AW and 57° SW are right-handed only.
What are the ZX7 Mk II lofts?
3-iron 20°, 4-iron 22°, 5-iron 25°, 6-iron 28°, 7-iron 32°, 8-iron 36°, 9-iron 41°, PW 46°, AW 51°, SW 57°, as Srixon published them. The full table with lie, length and offset is above.
Which clubs come in a ZX7 Mk II set?
4-iron to PW or 5-iron to PW, with a 3-iron singly; Srixon's table also lists a 51° AW, right-handed, and a 57° SW to order. Its combination guide pairs ZX5 Mk II long irons, down to the 6- or 7-iron, with ZX7 Mk II short irons from the 7- or 8-iron: distance in the long irons, control in the short ones. Srixon gives every ZX Mk II head the same 6.0 mm topline, so the mix looks like one set at address.
How much does the ZX7 Mk II cost?
Srixon no longer sells it new. Used from $501.99 at 2nd Swing Golf, checked 31 Oct. In a stock flex, from $635.99. Prices change; the seller's page has today's.

How the 1.0 adds up

The forgiveness score is our reading of what Srixon publishes about the head, from 1 to 5. It is not a test result. How every score works.

The parts of the forgiveness score
PartPointsWhy
Head class 1 Players: a compact head built for control, the least forgiving class of iron we score.
Offset +0 2.8 mm at the 7-iron, below our 4.5 mm mark.
Sole +0 Srixon describes the sole ("15.1 mm across at the 7-iron") but not as wide.
Forgiveness score1.0of 5

The score rates the head only. Hand, flex and price decide which version you buy, not how forgiving it is.
