Best golf clubs for high handicappers
Start with the club you miss most. On this site's spec points (each maker's published head design, loft and shaft options, not ball-flight tests), the top-scored club in each role is: irons, PING G740 (5.0 of 5, super game improvement, 4.8 mm offset at the 7-iron, wider sole); driver, Srixon ZXi MAX (5.0), or Callaway Quantum Max D (5.0) if a slice is your usual miss; hybrid, Titleist GT2 (4.5); fairway wood, PING G440 MAX (5.0); putter, TaylorMade Spider ZT Max (5.0). Keep the clubs you already hit well and replace the role that costs you shots first; a handicap alone does not settle the head, shaft or set makeup.
What can stay in your bag?
Write down the clubs you intend to keep, their lofts if known, and the carry distances you can repeat. Bring that list and those clubs to a fitting. Carry gaps and duplicate roles remain unknown until you compare them together.
If you need a complete first set, use the beginner set finder. If you are replacing irons, start with the finder for your usual miss; it separates mishits, heavy strikes and slice-related specification choices.
Tee shots: driver
The driver comparison lists head construction, published lofts, hands and shaft options. Check the actual head and loft you intend to order; a model name or draw-bias label does not guarantee that it will straighten your shot.
Long approaches: hybrid, wood or retained iron
A hybrid can fill a gap between irons and fairway woods. Compare the hybrid options and fairway woods with your longest usable iron. Match the role by carry and shots you need, rather than buying each type automatically.
Irons: compare the head and the set
These records are in the game-improvement or super-game-improvement class. The table's spec score is our arithmetic, not a ball-flight test. Missing specifications stay unknown. Check the first and last included iron before choosing another hybrid or wedge.

The fitting guide lists what to settle before ordering: length, lie, flex and where your iron set should start.
Short game: the wedge transition
Callaway's iron fitting protocol starts the first wedge at 4° to 6° more loft than the highest-lofted wedge in your iron set.
The forgiving wedge comparison lists loft, bounce, grind and hand by configuration.
Use the pitching wedge in the actual iron order as your starting point. Compare its loft with the wedges you keep, then measure carry on the shots you use. A loft difference is not a promise of a distance gap.
Putting: compare the options separately
The putter comparison lists head type, stock lengths and hands. Its score does not compare directly with an iron or driver score. Confirm length and alignment with the putter you plan to use.
Before ordering
Confirm each club's hand, exact shaft, length, lie and included accessories with the seller. Separate hand and flex lists do not establish stock for every combination. Do not add the table prices into a fitted-bag quote: iron prices can describe different club counts.
The fitting guide lists what to settle before ordering: length, lie, flex and where your iron set should start. Product records keep their source links on each club page.
