Head to head

PING i525 vs i530 irons

Choose the i525 for weaker lofts and a higher flight for the least money; choose the i530 for stronger lofts. PING builds the i530 only as fill-in or replacement clubs and no longer lists the i525, so both are mostly bought used.

The i530 replaced the i525 as PING's players distance iron, and both score 2 of 5. PING made the i530's lofts stronger through the set: a 29° 7-iron against 30.5°, a 42° pitching wedge against 45° and a 47° UW against 50°. By PING's tables the lies and lengths are the same club for club; the i530 has a little more offset in every club (3.0 mm at the 7-iron against 2.0 mm) and half a degree more bounce in the 8- and 9-iron, and its table starts at the 4-iron, where the i525's has a 3-iron.

    PING i525

PING's players distance iron of 2022, two generations before the i540: a compact head with a forged face, 2.0 mm of offset and a 30.5° 7-iron, a degree and a half weaker than the i540's. Tungsten weights in the toe and shaft tip add some help on a mishit, though less than PING's G-series heads give.

    PING i530

PING's players distance iron before the i540: a compact, blade-style hollow head with a forged face, 3.0 mm of offset at the 7-iron and a 29° 7-iron, the same loft as the i540's. It gives less help on a mishit than PING's G-series heads.
