Choose it if

  • You want a hybrid in place of your long irons, with some help on mishits, short of TaylorMade's most forgiving head.
  • You play left-handed: it is sold left-handed in the 3, 4 and 5 hybrids (19°, 22° and 25°).
  • You need a softer shaft: senior flex is stock.

Choose something else if

  • For more help on a mishit, the Qi4D Max Rescue is TaylorMade's most forgiving hybrid on its chart, with a higher launch and lofts up to a 34° 7 hybrid.

What changed from the Qi35 Rescue

The Qi4D Rescue keeps the Qi35 Rescue's four lofts (a 17° 2 hybrid, a 19° 3 hybrid, a 22° 4 hybrid and a 25° 5 hybrid), its lie ranges and lengths, its 106cc head, its 3° loft sleeve and its place on TaylorMade's chart, rated high for forgiveness with a mid launch, a step below the Max. TaylorMade builds the Qi4D in stainless steel with a carbon crown, adds an 8-gram weight that tunes the flight, rates its spin mid where the Qi35's is mid-low, and swaps the Fujikura Ventus Blue and Mitsubishi Kai'li shafts for the KBS and Mitsubishi REAX, in the same senior to extra stiff flexes.

TaylorMade still sells the Qi35 Rescue new, for less than the Qi4D, and used ones cost less again. Choose it for the same lofts, head and loft sleeve for less; choose the Qi4D for the movable weight.

What changed from the Qi10 Rescue

The Qi4D Rescue, two generations on, keeps the Qi10 Rescue's 19° 3 hybrid, 22° 4 hybrid and 25° 5 hybrid at the same lengths, and adds a 17° 2 hybrid. It adds a 3° loft sleeve, so loft and lie can be changed where the Qi10 has one lie per loft, and an 8-gram weight that tunes the flight. The Qi10 Rescue also came as a 28° 6 hybrid and a 31° 7 hybrid: since the Qi35, TaylorMade's all-round hybrid stops at the 5 hybrid, and its 6 and 7 hybrids come only in the Max and Max Lite heads.

TaylorMade no longer sells the Qi10 Rescue, so it is bought used, for well under half the price of a new Qi4D; the Qi35 Rescue between them is still sold new, for less than the Qi4D. Choose a used Qi10 for the lowest price, or for a 6 or 7 hybrid in the all-round head; choose the Qi4D for the loft sleeve, the movable weight or a 2 hybrid.
