What changed from the Ai-ONE Square 2 Square Jailbird Center Shaft
Both are Odyssey's Square 2 Square Jailbird: a centre-shafted mallet that rests toe-up, with 2° of forward shaft lean, 3° of loft, a 72° lie and a 360g head, at 33, 34 or 35 inches in either hand. The Ai-DUAL swaps the Ai-ONE insert (an aluminium backer behind a White Hot urethane face) for a two-layer urethane insert with a deeper face groove, which Odyssey says improves forward roll. It also comes with the heavier, stiffer SL 120 shaft in place of the SL 90, and a reverse taper grip shaped to the shaft lean, which is an extra-cost option on the Ai-ONE.
Odyssey still sells the Ai-ONE Jailbird new, so compare the prices in the table: when the Ai-DUAL costs the same or less, it is the better buy. Choose the Ai-ONE used, or when it is cheaper, for the same toe-up head; choose the Ai-DUAL for the two-layer insert and the heavier shaft.
