Srixon ZX5 driver

Maximum forgiveness, 4.0 of 5

Srixon's 2021 forgiving driver, which it called "extremely forgiving": a 460cc head whose carbon crown, 15% larger than before, moves weight low, deep and around the edge for an MOI over 5,000 g-cm², in 9.5° or 10.5°, either hand, and still sold new by Srixon. Srixon still sells the ZX5 new; the ZX5 Mk II followed it, and the ZXi RKT MAX is the newest model in its line.

Choose it if

  • You want a forgiving Srixon head that launches high, new for less than its launch price or used for little money.
  • You play left-handed: it is sold left-handed.
  • You want to spend less: $349.99 is in the cheapest third of the 28 we price.

Choose something else if

  • You need a stock senior flex (Srixon builds senior only to order): Cobra OPTM MAX-D, senior (A) flex in stock, 4.0 of 5.
  • If your drives curve right, choose a draw-biased head: the ZX5's one weight sits low in the back, not in the heel.

What changed in the ZXi RKT MAX

Srixon followed the ZX5 with the ZX5 Mk II in 2023, which we also cover; the ZXi RKT MAX is its most forgiving driver today. Both are 460cc heads with one weight low in the back and a hosel that changes loft, lie and face angle. The ZX5 has a carbon crown and an 8-gram weight and came in 9.5° and 10.5°, either hand. The ZXi RKT MAX adds a 12° loft, a 14-gram weight and a face of Srixon's new VR-Titanium, which it says checks hooks on strikes high on the toe; it is left-handed in 10.5° only. Srixon gives the ZX5 as 45.25 inches and the ZXi RKT MAX as 45.75, but it now measures to the USGA and R&A guideline, which reads about half an inch longer for drivers than its old figures.

Srixon still sells the ZX5 new for less than its launch price and far less than a new ZXi RKT MAX, and used ones cost less again. Choose it for a forgiving Srixon head for little money, in either hand; choose the ZXi RKT MAX for a 12° loft, the newer face or a senior flex as stock.
