Srixon ZX5 Mk II driver

Driver, 3.0 of 5 for forgiveness

Srixon's 2023 driver for "heightened forgiveness": the high-launching head of its ZX Mk II range, with a larger footprint, an 8-gram weight set low and deep and a slight draw built in, in 9.5° or 10.5°, either hand. Srixon still sells the ZX5 Mk II new; the ZXi MAX followed it, and the ZXi RKT MAX is the newest model in its line.

What changed in the ZXi RKT MAX

Srixon followed the ZX5 Mk II with its ZXi drivers, among them the ZXi MAX, which we also cover; the ZXi RKT MAX is its most forgiving driver today. Both are 460cc heads with one weight low in the back and a hosel that changes loft, lie and face angle. The ZX5 Mk II has a thin titanium crown and an 8-gram weight and came in 9.5° and 10.5°, either hand. The ZXi RKT MAX has a carbon crown, a 14-gram weight, a face of Srixon's new VR-Titanium, which it says checks hooks on strikes high on the toe, and a 12° loft; it is left-handed in 10.5° only. Srixon gives the ZX5 Mk II as 45.25 inches and the ZXi RKT MAX as 45.75, but it now measures to the USGA and R&A guideline, which reads about half an inch longer for drivers than its old figures. Srixon named no forgiveness class for the ZX5 Mk II, while its chart heads the ZXi RKT MAX Max Forgiveness, so the ZX5 Mk II scores 3.0 here and the ZXi RKT MAX 4.0.

Srixon still sells the ZX5 Mk II new at its launch price, but its order form now offers only the 9.5° head, and used ones cost a fraction of that. Choose it for a high-launching Srixon head with a slight draw; choose the ZXi RKT MAX for the class Srixon gives its most forgiving head, a 10.5° or 12° loft new, or the newer face.
