Takomo 201 irons

Players, 1.0 of 5 for forgiveness

Takomo's first 201, a forged players' cavity back for handicaps 0 to 14: one piece of S20C carbon steel with weight round the edge, 2 mm of offset at the 7-iron and a 32° 7-iron. Takomo still sold it new on 19 Oct 2026, as its final batch, and the 201 MKII replaced it.

Choose it if

  • You find the middle of the face nearly every time and want control from a compact head.
  • You play left-handed: it is sold left-handed.
  • You want to spend less: $589 is in the cheapest third of the 43 we price.

Choose something else if

  • You need a stock senior flex (Takomo builds senior only to order): PING G740, senior (A) flex in stock, 5.0 of 5.
  • For more help on a mishit, Takomo's 201 MKII keeps the 201's lies but is hollow, with more offset in every club (2.77 mm at the 7-iron against 2 mm), and its 101 MKII is its game improvement iron.

What changed in the 201 MKII

Takomo rebuilt the 201 for the MKII. The first 201 is forged in one piece from S20C carbon steel, a cavity back Takomo calls a players' iron, for handicaps 0 to 14; the 201 MKII is a hollow body cast from 17-4 steel with a face that changes thickness across the 4- to 7-irons, and Takomo pitches it a step above game improvement, for handicaps 5 to 25. The MKII has more offset in every club (2.77 mm at the 7-iron against 2 mm) and a 7-iron a degree stronger (31° against 32°); the other lofts and every lie are the same. So the two sit in different classes here: the first 201 with the players irons, the MKII with the players distance irons.

Takomo still sells the first 201 new as its final batch, in either hand and for less than the 201 MKII. Choose it if you strike the ball well and want a forged one-piece head with less offset; choose the 201 MKII for more help on a mishit, from its hollow body, the face that changes thickness through the long irons and the extra offset.

Head to head: Takomo 101T vs 201 irons

Loft, lie and length, club by club

As Takomo publishes them
Club Loft Lie Length Offset
4-iron 22° 60.5° 38.75 in 2.5 mm
5-iron 25° 61° 38.25 in 2.5 mm
6-iron 28° 61.5° 37.75 in 2 mm
7-iron 32° 62° 37.25 in 2 mm
8-iron 36° 62.5° 36.75 in 2 mm
9-iron 41° 63° 36.25 in 2 mm
P 46° 63.5° 36 in 2 mm

After the pitching wedge (P, 46°): with a 56° sand wedge, the 10° gap leaves room for one more wedge, at about 51°.

Callaway's iron fitting guide puts your first wedge 4° to 6° above the highest-lofted wedge in your iron set. A gap in degrees is not a gap in yards. To choose that wedge, see the forgiving wedges by loft and bounce.

Use the iron finder to compare sets for your usual miss, and check the set makeup and loft gaps before ordering.

201: the questions buyers ask

Is the 201 sold left-handed?
Yes: Takomo sells it left- and right-handed.
What are the 201 lofts?
4-iron 22°, 5-iron 25°, 6-iron 28°, 7-iron 32°, 8-iron 36°, 9-iron 41°, P 46°, as Takomo publishes them. The full table with lie, length and offset is above.
Which clubs come in a 201 set?
4-iron to PW (7 clubs), the only set Takomo lists, right- or left-handed.
How much does the 201 cost?

How the 1.0 adds up

The forgiveness score is our reading of what Takomo publishes about the head, from 1 to 5. It is not a test result. How every score works.

The parts of the forgiveness score
PartPointsWhy
Head class 1 Players: a compact head built for control, the least forgiving class of iron we score.
Offset +0 2.0 mm at the 7-iron, below our 4.5 mm mark.
Sole +0 Takomo doesn't publish a sole width, so the sole earns no point.
Forgiveness score1.0of 5

The score rates the head only. Hand, flex and price decide which version you buy, not how forgiving it is. Takomo does not publish a sole width.
