Choose the 101T for the hollow head's help on a mishit; choose the 201 for a forged feel and less offset in the long irons. For more help than either, Takomo's 101 MKII is its game improvement iron.
101T $589 · 201 $589, each with its shop and checked date
Takomo gave these two the same lofts and lengths club for club (a 32° 7-iron) and sells both as final batches, but built them differently. The 101T is hollow, a 431 stainless body behind a 450 stainless face, and Takomo calls it a players' distance iron for handicaps 0 to 16; the 201 is forged in one piece from S20C carbon steel with weight round the edge of its cavity, a players' cavity back for handicaps 0 to 14. The 101T has more offset in the long and middle irons (3.3 mm at the 4-iron against 2.5 mm, 2.4 mm at the 7-iron against 2 mm), slightly less in the 9-iron and PW, and every club sits half a degree more upright. It scores 2 of 5 here against the 201's 1, because Takomo's own class words put the 201 among its players irons.
Takomo's hollow-body players distance iron for better ball strikers, handicaps 0 to 16: a thinner top line, a shorter blade and less offset than its first 101, 2.4 mm at the 7-iron, and a 32° 7-iron.
Takomo's first 201, a forged players' cavity back for handicaps 0 to 14: one piece of S20C carbon steel with weight round the edge, 2 mm of offset at the 7-iron and a 32° 7-iron.
