  • You play left-handed: it was made left-handed in the 3-, 5- and 7-woods (15.5°, 18.5° and 21.5°).
  • You need a softer shaft: it came in a stock senior flex.
  • You want to spend less: $269.99 is in the cheapest third of the 9 we price.

What changed in the Qi4D Max

Both are TaylorMade's most forgiving fairway wood of their year, at the same lengths and lies, left-handed in the 3-, 5- and 7-woods only, with a 4° loft sleeve in the 3- and 5-woods. The Qi4D Max is half a degree stronger in every loft (15°, 18°, 21° and 24° against 15.5°, 18.5°, 21.5° and 24.5°), and its 3- and 5-woods are larger (200cc and 190cc against 190cc and 175cc). TaylorMade concentrates the Qi4D Max's mass towards the back of the head, which it says raises stability and forgiveness, adds an 8-gram weight that tunes flight, spin and swing weight, and swaps the Fujikura AirSpeeder shaft for Mitsubishi's REAX 55 FW in the same three flexes, with a lighter REAX 40 FW in ladies flex.

Golf Discount still sells the Qi35 Max new for less than a Qi4D Max, but on 16 Oct only as a left-handed 3-wood in regular flex; used ones in other lofts and flexes cost less again. It suits a golfer who wants TaylorMade's most forgiving fairway wood for less; choose the Qi4D Max for a new club in the loft, flex and hand you want, a ladies flex, or the adjustable weight.
