What changed in the Quantum Max
The Ai Smoke HL was Callaway's high-launch iron of 2024: a deep cavity back with tungsten weighting and 2° more loft than the Ai Smoke in every club, rated Higher for forgiveness on Callaway's chart, a step above the Ai Smoke. Against the standard Quantum Max it has a degree weaker 7-iron (30° against 29°) and a little less offset (3.4 mm at the 7-iron against 3.71 mm); the Quantum Max has an undercut cavity and a three-part Tri-Sole. The Elyte HL came between them in 2025.
Callaway still sells the Ai Smoke HL new for less than a Quantum Max set, and used sets cost less again; this page shows the prices. Choose it if your irons fly too low and you want the extra loft and a deep cavity back for less; choose the Quantum Max, which Callaway also builds in an HL version to order, for its newest face.

How the 3.0 adds up
The forgiveness score is our reading of what Callaway publishes about the head, from 1 to 5. It is not a test result. How every score works.
| Part | Points | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Head class | 3 | Game improvement: a forgiving head, slimmer than super game improvement. |
| Offset | +0 | 3.4 mm at the 7-iron, below our 4.5 mm mark. |
| Sole | +0 | Callaway doesn't publish a sole width, so the sole earns no point. |
| Forgiveness score | 3.0 | of 5 |
The score rates the head only. Hand, flex and price decide which version you buy, not how forgiving it is. Callaway does not publish a sole width.
