Choose it if

  • You make decent contact and want help on the misses from a slimmer head.
  • You catch the ground before the ball: the sole is wide, so it skids instead of digging.
  • You need a left-handed club or a senior flex: both are stock.
  • You want to spend less: $559.99 is in the cheapest third of the 43 we price.

What changed from the Hot Launch C523

Tour Edge prints the same lofts, lies and lengths for both, club for club from the 4-iron to the AW (a 29° 7-iron), and describes the same wide sole, deep undercut cavity and soft insert behind the face. The C524's table stops at the AW; the C523's ran to a 59° LW.

Tour Edge no longer sells the C523, and used sets cost less than a new C524. With the same lofts and head design on Tour Edge's own pages, a used C523 is the cheaper way to the C524's set-up; choose the C524 for a new set in your hand and flex.

After the approach wedge (AW, 48°): with a 56° sand wedge, the 8° gap leaves room for one more wedge, at about 52°.

Callaway's iron fitting guide puts your first wedge 4° to 6° above the highest-lofted wedge in your iron set. A gap in degrees is not a gap in yards. To choose that wedge, see the forgiving wedges by loft and bounce.

Use the iron finder to compare sets for your usual miss, and check the set makeup and loft gaps before ordering. Between a game improvement and a super game improvement head, this is how to tell which one your strike needs.

The Tour Edge Hot Launch C524 is sold in a senior (A) flex as well as regular (R): what the senior flex changes, and who it suits.

How the 3.5 adds up

The forgiveness score is our reading of what Tour Edge publishes about the head, from 1 to 5. It is not a test result. How every score works.

The parts of the forgiveness score
PartPointsWhy
Head class 3 Game improvement: a forgiving head, slimmer than super game improvement.
Offset +0 Tour Edge doesn't publish a 7-iron offset, so offset earns no point.
Sole +0.5 Tour Edge calls the sole wide ("wider sole with a 360° deep undercut cavity").
Forgiveness score3.5of 5

The score rates the head only. Hand, flex and price decide which version you buy, not how forgiving it is. Tour Edge does not publish a 7-iron offset.
