Choose it if

  • You find a fairway wood hard to get airborne.
  • You slice: the adjustable weight has a draw setting.
  • You need a softer shaft: it came in a stock senior flex.

Choose something else if

  • For more loft than a 21.5° 7-wood, the OPTM MAX, Cobra's most forgiving fairway today, adds a 24.5° 9-wood.

What changed in the OPTM MAX

The OPTM MAX keeps the AEROJET MAX's 15.5° 3-wood, 18.5° 5-wood and 21.5° 7-wood and their lengths (its 3-wood a quarter of an inch longer, 43.25 in against 43 in), and adds a 24.5° 9-wood. Its heads are 12 to 13cc larger (182cc against 169cc in the 3-wood), and its standard lies are 0.8° to 1.8° more upright. Its FutureFit33 hosel has 33 loft and lie settings, 2° either way, against the AEROJET MAX's eight, 1.5° either way; both tune a draw with weight in the heel. The DARKSPEED MAX between them kept the AEROJET MAX's lofts, lies and lengths, so a golfer fitted for one can carry those specifications to the other.

Cobra no longer sells the AEROJET MAX, and no shop we checked has a new one, so it is bought used, for much less than a new OPTM MAX. Choose it for Cobra's heel draw setting for little money; choose the OPTM MAX for a new club, a 9-wood or the wider hosel settings.
