Cobra DARKSPEED hybrid
Maximum forgiveness, 4.0 of 5
Cobra's 2024 hybrid, in four stock lofts from 17° to 24° and a 28° built to order, with a 12-gram weight as low in the sole as Cobra could set it for a high flight and a deep body with a high-bounce leading edge that Cobra says helps it through any turf. Cobra no longer sells the DARKSPEED new; the DS-ADAPT replaced it, and the OPTM replaced the DS-ADAPT.

What changed in the OPTM
The standard lies are the same, 58° in the 3 hybrid to 59.5° in the 6 hybrid. The OPTM drops the 17° 2 hybrid, makes the 3 hybrid a degree stronger (18° against 19°), and builds each loft an eighth to half an inch longer (39 in at the 6 hybrid against 38.5 in); the DS-ADAPT between them made the same change in length. The DARKSPEED's 12-gram weight sits low and mid-back in the sole for a high flight; the OPTM's fixed weight sits low and back, which Cobra says raises the MOI and brings the ball down more steeply. Both come in stiff, regular and senior flex, the DARKSPEED on KBS PGI shafts and the OPTM on KBS PGH, and the 6 hybrid, a custom build on the DARKSPEED, is stock on the OPTM.
Cobra no longer sells the DARKSPEED hybrid, and used ones cost well under half the OPTM's price new. It suits a golfer who wants a high-launching Cobra hybrid for little money; choose the OPTM for a new club in any loft, flex or hand, or for the weight Cobra moved back to raise the MOI.

How the 4.0 adds up
The forgiveness score is our reading of what Cobra publishes about the head, from 1 to 5. It is not a test result. How every score works.
| Part | Points | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Head | 4 | A maximum-forgiveness hybrid head, the most forgiving kind Cobra made. |
| Forgiveness score | 4.0 | of 5 |
Draw help, lofts, flex and hand don't change the score. They decide which version fits you, and the picks for a slice or a slow swing use them.
