PING G25 driver
Maximum forgiveness, 4.0 of 5
PING's 2013 driver, sold as its "largest-profile, most forgiving head design": a 460cc titanium head with an ultra-thin crown and a hosel that adds or takes away half a degree, in 8.5°, 9.5°, 10.5° or 12°, either hand. PING no longer sells the G25 new; the G30 followed it, and the G440 MAX is the newest model in its line.

Choose it if
- You want a forgiving PING head, in a loft up to 12°, for little money.
- You need a left-handed club or a senior flex: both were stock builds.
Choose something else if
- If your drives curve right, look at the G30 SF Tec that followed it in 2014: PING set its sole weight nearer the heel for a right-to-left flight.

What changed in the G440 MAX
Both are PING's 460cc heads with the centre of gravity set low and back for a high MOI. The G25 came in 8.5°, 9.5°, 10.5° and 12°, each in either hand, with a hosel that adds or takes away half a degree and a 45.75-inch standard length. The G440 MAX, which PING calls the most forgiving G440 model, comes in 9°, 10.5° and 12°, with a 29-gram back weight that can be set to draw or fade, a carbon crown, a hosel that adjusts loft by 1.5° each way and can set the lie up to 3° flatter, and a 46-inch standard length. PING's G30 of 2014, G of 2016 and G400 of 2017, which we also cover, came between them.
PING no longer sells the G25 and we found no shop selling it new, but used ones cost a fraction of a new G440 MAX. Choose a used G25 for a forgiving PING head for very little money, in the loft you need; choose the G440 MAX for the movable weight, the wider loft adjustment or the hotter, thinner face.

How the 4.0 adds up
The forgiveness score is our reading of what PING publishes about the head, from 1 to 5. It is not a test result. How every score works.
| Part | Points | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Head | 4 | A maximum-forgiveness driver head, the most forgiving kind PING made. |
| Forgiveness score | 4.0 | of 5 |
Draw help, lofts, flex and hand don't change the score. They decide which version fits you, and the picks for a slice or a slow swing use them.

| Construction | A 460cc titanium head with an ultra-thin crown, weight spread to the perimeter and set lower and farther back than in any PING driver before it, and a hosel that adds or takes away half a degree of loft. 45.75 inches, a 58° lie. Buying used, choose the loft you need: the hosel moves it only half a degree, so a 10.5° will not play as a 12°. |
