PING G425 hybrid

Maximum forgiveness, 4.0 of 5

PING's G425 hybrid of 2021, in six lofts from 17° to 34°, with a tungsten weight on the far back edge of the head that PING says raises the MOI for more stability and forgiveness. PING no longer sells the G425 new; the G430 replaced it, and the G440 replaced the G430.

What changed in the G440

The lengths, the lies and the 2, 5, 6 and 7 hybrid lofts are the same; the G430 between them kept the G425's lofts as well. The G440 makes the 3 and 4 hybrids a degree weaker (20° and 23° against 19° and 22°) so they launch higher, and gives the 5, 6 and 7 hybrids a slight draw bias, where the G425 page describes none. It adds a carbon-wrapped crown and a lighter hosel to what the G425 page calls a stainless steel head, a shallower face, and an HL build with a lighter shaft for slower swings, which the G425 never had.

PING no longer lists the G425 hybrid, but Golf Discount still sells new right-handed 2 and 3 hybrids, and used ones are easy to find. It suits a golfer who wants PING's tungsten-weighted hybrid for the least money; choose the G440 for a new club in any loft or either hand, the slight draw in the 5 to 7 hybrids, or the HL build for a slower swing.
