PING G430 HL irons

Game improvement, 3.5 of 5 for forgiveness

The G430 head in a lighter build, with 38- or 41-gram graphite shafts and a light grip for a slower swing: PING's HL iron before the G440 HL, with the same lofts from the 4-iron to the 9-iron. Carl's Golfland still sold it new on 16 Oct 2026, left-handed only, and the G440 HL replaced it.

Choose it if

  • Your swing is slow and a standard set feels heavy: it is the G430 head on 38 or 41 g graphite shafts.
  • Your iron shots start right or fly low: 4.6 mm of offset gives the face more time to square.
  • You play left-handed: it is sold left-handed.

What changed in the G440 HL

Both are PING's game improvement head in its lighter HL build, on the same ALTA Quick 35 and 45 graphite shafts (38 and 41 g) with a Lamkin UTx Lite grip. The 4-iron to 9-iron lofts (19° to 37°, with a 29° 7-iron), the lies and the offset (about 0.18" at the 7-iron) are the same. By PING's tables, the G440 HL's 4-, 5- and 6-irons are longer (by 3/8, 1/4 and 1/8 inch), its pitching wedge is 42° against 41°, and its matching wedges are a UW, 52° and 56° in place of 45°, 50°, 54° and 58°. The head is the G440's, which PING describes with a more flexible face and a low, rearward centre of gravity.

Carl's Golfland still sells the G430 HL new, but on 16 Oct only left-handed: a 4-PW set in the 45 shaft and a 6-PW with three wedges in the 35. It suits a left-handed golfer with a slower swing who wants PING's lighter build from stock; choose the G440 HL for a right-handed set, a set built to order, the longer long irons or the new wedge lofts.

How the 3.5 adds up

The forgiveness score is our reading of what PING publishes about the head, from 1 to 5. It is not a test result. How every score works.

The score rates the head only. Hand, flex and price decide which version you buy, not how forgiving it is. PING does not publish a sole width.
