The Hot Metal is the more forgiving of the two: more offset (4.8 mm at the 7-iron against 3.2 mm), a wider sole and stronger lofts (a 28° 7-iron against 30°), with tungsten low in the long irons to help them launch.
Mizuno's two speed cavities share every loft (a 28° 7-iron), every lie and every length from the 4-iron to the GW, with the same cup face and tungsten low in the 4- to 7-irons.
The JPX923 Hot Metal is the more forgiving: Mizuno built it as a forgiving speed cavity for mid to high handicaps, where the Forged is its midsize forged cavity for good to mid handicaps.
