Choose it if
- You make decent contact and want help on the misses from a slimmer head.
- Your iron shots start right or fly low: 5.0 mm of offset gives the face more time to square.
- You play left-handed: it was made left-handed.
- You want to spend less: $699.98 is in the cheapest third of the 43 we price.
Choose something else if
- For more help on thin and heavy strikes, look at the JPX925 Hot Metal HL, with its wider head and weaker lofts.

What changed in the JPX925 Hot Metal
Both are Mizuno's forgiving speed cavity for mid to high handicaps, with the same head length. The JPX925 Hot Metal is half a degree stronger from the 7-iron to the pitching wedge (a 28° 7-iron against 28.5°; the 48° gap wedge and 54° sand wedge are unchanged), a quarter inch longer from the 4-iron to the gap wedge, more upright (half a degree from the 4-iron to the pitching wedge, a full degree in the gap and sand wedges), and has slightly less offset (4.8 mm at the 7-iron against 5.0 mm). Mizuno also rebuilt the face, and sells the 925 from the 4-iron to the sand wedge, where the 923 went down to a lob wedge.
Mizuno no longer lists the JPX923 Hot Metal, but PGA TOUR Superstore still has new sets for far less than a JPX925, and used sets cost less again. Choose the JPX925 for the newer face and the longer, more upright fit.

How the 3.5 adds up
The forgiveness score is our reading of what Mizuno publishes about the head, from 1 to 5. It is not a test result. How every score works.
| Part | Points | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Head class | 3 | Game improvement: a forgiving head, slimmer than super game improvement. |
| Offset | +0.5 | 5.0 mm at the 7-iron, at or above our 4.5 mm mark. |
| Sole | +0 | Mizuno describes the sole ("22.8 mm across at the 7-iron") but not as wide. |
| Forgiveness score | 3.5 | of 5 |
The score rates the head only. Hand, flex and price decide which version you buy, not how forgiving it is. Mizuno does not publish the set makeup. Its shafts and flexes are custom-order options, with no stock shaft named.
