Head to head

PING i240 vs Blueprint S irons

Choose the i240 for the extra bounce and the UW; choose the Blueprint S for a forged head with the least offset. Both are built for good strikers, and PING's G440 gives far more help on a mishit.

i240 $1,400Blueprint S $1,550.50, each with its shop and checked date

PING's two current players irons share every loft (a 33° 7-iron), every lie and every length from the 3-iron to the PW, and both score 1 of 5. The Blueprint S is a forged carbon steel head with a narrow sole, a little less offset in every club (2.0 mm at the 7-iron against 2.3 mm) and a degree less bounce (a degree and a half in the PW); a pocket in its 3- to 5-irons saves weight to raise their MOI. The i240 moves the weight saved by a lighter badge and an elastomer insert to the perimeter, has a rounded leading edge with more bounce, and adds a 50° UW to the set. PING aims the i240 at "a wide range of skill levels" and the Blueprint S at low handicaps.

    PING i240

PING's compact players iron: a thin topline, 2.3 mm of offset and a 33° 7-iron. PING added some forgiveness behind the face, but it is built for good strikers, and no set we score forgives less.

    PING Blueprint S

PING's forged players cavity back: a compact head with a thin top line, 2.0 mm of offset and a narrow sole, on the same lofts as the i240 (a 33° 7-iron). A pocket forged into the 3- to 5-irons moves weight out for a little help on a long-iron mishit, but PING aims it at low handicaps, and no set we score forgives less.
