Head to head

TaylorMade P770 vs P7CB irons

Choose the P7CB if you strike it well and want the smaller head, which TaylorMade rates more workable.

Choose the P770 if you want a little more help on a mishit, or TaylorMade's own combo of P770 long irons and P7CB short irons for some of each.

P770 $1,199.99P7CB $1,166.69, each with its shop and checked date

The P770 is the more forgiving of the two: TaylorMade rates it mid for forgiveness against low-mid for the P7CB, and files it as a modern players iron where the P7CB is a players iron. Golf Digest calls the P7CB's one-piece forged head more compact than the P770's, and the P770 sets tungsten low in its long irons to launch them higher. Every lie and length is the same, and so are the lofts from the 6-iron to the 9-iron (a 33° 7-iron in both); the P770 is a degree stronger in the 3- and 4-iron, the PW and the AW, and half a degree in the 5-iron. Both come with the same stock shafts, both are made left-handed from the 3-iron to the PW only, and TaylorMade prints no offset for either, so both score 1 of 5 here.

    TaylorMade P770

TaylorMade's compact forged iron: a thinner top line than the P790 and a 33° 7-iron. TaylorMade's own chart rates its forgiveness mid, a step below the P790, and no set we score forgives less.
