Callaway Epic Speed driver

Game improvement, 3.0 of 5 for forgiveness

Callaway's 2021 Epic driver built for speed, rated High for forgiveness on Callaway's own chart, a step below the Epic MAX: a mid-size 460cc head with a carbon toe patch that adds a draw bias, in 9°, 10.5° or 12°. Callaway no longer sells the Epic Speed new, and the Quantum Max is the current model in its line.

Choose it if

  • You want some help on mishits, short of the maker's most forgiving head.
  • You slice: the head has a slight draw bias built in.
  • You play left-handed: it was made left-handed.
  • You need a softer shaft: it came in Light, the flex Callaway's buying guide calls senior.

What changed in the Quantum Max

Both are Callaway's 460cc drivers in 9°, 10.5° and 12° and both hands. The Epic Speed has no movable weight: a carbon patch in the toe gives it a slight draw bias, and Callaway built its head shape for speed, rating it a step below the Epic MAX for forgiveness. The Quantum Max slides a 10-gram weight between neutral and draw settings, and Callaway sells it on a face of titanium, polymer and carbon layers that keeps speed on off-centre hits.

No shop we checked sells the Epic Speed new, and used it costs a fraction of a new Quantum Max. Choose it for a cheap Callaway head with a little draw bias; choose the Epic MAX used for more forgiveness, or the Quantum Max for a weight you can set and the newer face.
