Head to head

PING G425 vs TaylorMade Stealth irons

Choose the G425 if you want a higher flight and the most help on a mishit.

Choose the Stealth if you want more distance from each club and a draw bias in the long irons.

Both are game improvement irons of the same era, the G425 a year older than the Stealth, and the G425 is a little more forgiving by our score, 3.5 of 5 against 3. It has a little more offset at the 7-iron (4.6 mm against 4.1 mm) and tungsten in the toe and hosel to spread the weight round the edge, which PING says set a new standard in forgiveness for an iron its size. The Stealth moves weight from the toe into the sole for launch and has a little draw bias in its long irons. The Stealth's lofts are two to two and a half degrees stronger from the 4-iron to the 9-iron (a 28° 7-iron against 30°), so each club flies lower and farther. PING no longer makes the G425, even as fill-in clubs, so it is bought used; it also came in extra stiff.
