What changed from the Paradym

Both are Callaway's players distance iron of their year: a hollow head with a forged face. The Apex Ai200 has a degree weaker 7-iron (30° against 29°) and a little more offset in the 7-iron (3.1 mm against 2.79 mm). Callaway rates its forgiveness Mid-High and publishes no sole width for it; it called the Paradym's sole mid.

Used sets cost much less than a new Apex Ai200; this page shows the used price, and both score the same here. Choose the Apex Ai200 for a new set built in your hand, shaft and flex.

What changed from the Apex 21

Both are Callaway's players distance Apex of their year. The Apex Ai200 is half a degree stronger from the 5-iron to the 9-iron (a 30° 7-iron against 30.5°), with the same 4-iron, pitching wedge and AW lofts and the same lengths. The offset at the 7-iron is the same to a tenth of a millimetre (3.1 mm), but the Apex 21 has more in the long irons (4.6 mm in the 4-iron against 3.8 mm) and in the wedges (2.5 mm in the PW against 2.0 mm), and it came with a 3-iron. Callaway builds the Ai200 as a forged hollow body with its Ai Smart Face and rates its forgiveness Mid-High; for the Apex 21 its chart named a standard offset and a moderate sole.

A used Apex 21 costs much less than a new Apex Ai200, and the two score the same here. Choose the Apex 21 for nearly the same lofts for much less, if a used set comes in your hand and flex; choose the Apex Ai200 for a new set built to your lie, shaft and flex.

As Callaway publishes them

5-iron 23° 61° 38 in 3.7 mm
6-iron 26° 61.5° 37.5 in 3.4 mm

PW 43° 63.25° 35.75 in 2 mm
AW 48° 63.5° 35.5 in 1.8 mm

After the approach wedge (AW, 48°): with a 56° sand wedge, the 8° gap leaves room for one more wedge, at about 52°.

Callaway's iron fitting guide puts your first wedge 4° to 6° above the highest-lofted wedge in your iron set. A gap in degrees is not a gap in yards. To choose that wedge, see the forgiving wedges by loft and bounce.

Use the iron finder to compare sets for your usual miss, and check the set makeup and loft gaps before ordering.

The Callaway Apex Ai200 is sold in a senior (A) flex as well as regular (R): what the senior flex changes, and who it suits.
