PING G400 hybrid

Maximum forgiveness, 4.0 of 5

PING's G400 hybrid of 2017, in five lofts from 17° to 30°, with a dense back weight and an ultra-thin crown that PING says raise the MOI for extreme, full-face forgiveness. PING no longer sells the G400 new; the G410 followed it, and the G440 is the newest model in its line.

What changed in the G440

PING followed the G400 hybrid with the G410 in 2019, then the G425, the G430 and the G440. The 2, 5 and 6 hybrid lofts are the same (17°, 26° and 30°); the G440 makes the 3 and 4 hybrids a degree weaker (20° and 23° against 19° and 22°) and adds a 34° 7 hybrid. The G400's hosel is fixed, where the G440's adjusts loft by 1.5° either way and the lie up to 3° flatter. The G440 adds a carbon-wrapped crown, a slight draw bias in the 5, 6 and 7 hybrids, and an HL build with a lighter shaft for slower swings.

PING no longer lists the G400 hybrid, and used ones cost a fraction of a new G440. It suits a golfer who wants PING's high-MOI hybrid in a fixed loft for the least money; choose the G440 for a new club, an adjustable loft, a 7 hybrid or the HL build for a slower swing.
