Wilson Launch Pad 2 irons

Super game improvement, 4.0 of 5 for forgiveness

Wilson's 2022 super game improvement iron: weight taken out and set low for a higher launch, and a sole shaped to keep the head out of the grass on a heavy strike, with a 30° 7-iron. Wilson no longer sells the Launch Pad 2 new, and its most forgiving iron today is the DYNAPWR Max.

Choose it if

  • You often catch it thin or heavy and want the most help an iron gives.
  • You want a higher flight: the 30° 7-iron is weaker than most.
  • You need a left-handed club or a senior flex: both were stock builds.

What changed in the DYNAPWR Max (Steel)

Both are Wilson's irons for golfers who want the most help from a set, sold as a 5-iron to gap wedge set, right- or left-handed. The Launch Pad 2 has a 30° 7-iron and 0.14 inches of offset, with a sole shaped to keep the head out of the grass and its weight set low for height. Wilson calls the DYNAPWR Max its longest and most forgiving iron yet: a cup face, an extra-wide sole and its largest head shape.

Wilson no longer sells the Launch Pad 2, and used it costs a fraction of a new DYNAPWR Max set. Choose it for a high-launching, chunk-resistant set on a small budget; choose the DYNAPWR Max for Wilson's newer face and widest sole.

PW 44° 65° 36 in 0.125 in
GW 49° 65° 35.75 in 0.12 in

After the gap wedge (GW, 49°): with a 56° sand wedge, the gap is 7°, just over the 4° to 6° step; a wedge in between would leave two steps under 4°.

Callaway's iron fitting guide puts your first wedge 4° to 6° above the highest-lofted wedge in your iron set. A gap in degrees is not a gap in yards. To choose that wedge, see the forgiving wedges by loft and bounce.

Use the iron finder to compare sets for your usual miss, and check the set makeup and loft gaps before ordering. Between a game improvement and a super game improvement head, this is how to tell which one your strike needs.

The Wilson Launch Pad 2 came in a senior (A) flex as well as regular (R): what the senior flex changes, and who it suits.

How the 4.0 adds up

The forgiveness score is our reading of what Wilson publishes about the head, from 1 to 5. It is not a test result. How every score works.
