What changed from the DS-ADAPT MAX

The KING MAX replaced the DS-ADAPT MAX as Cobra's super game improvement iron. Cobra's tables keep the same lengths and lies and nearly the same offset (5.2 mm at the 7-iron against 5.1, and 0.1 mm more in each club from there down, with 7.6 mm in both 4-irons). The KING MAX is half a degree weaker from the 5-iron to the 9-iron (a 29.5° 7-iron against 29°) and a degree weaker in the wedges (a 44.5° PW against 43.5°). Cobra adds a 3D-printed medallion, a floating 80 g weight and a sole reshaped with more bounce at the leading edge.

Cobra no longer sells the DS-ADAPT MAX, but PGA TOUR Superstore still has it new for less than a KING MAX, and used sets cost far less. Choose the DS-ADAPT MAX for nearly the same head for less; choose the KING MAX for the newer head and its reshaped sole.

What changed from the DS-ADAPT

Cobra followed the DS-ADAPT with the KING in 2026; we do not cover the KING. The KING MAX we cover is its forgiving version: 2.5° weaker at the 7-iron (29.5° against the DS-ADAPT's 27°), with 5.2 mm of offset there against 3.2 mm, a 3D-printed medallion, a floating 80 g weight and a sole Cobra reshaped with more bounce at the leading edge. The DS-ADAPT is a slimmer hollow distance iron, with Cobra's largest face insert and softer foam inside.

Cobra no longer sells the DS-ADAPT, but Golf Discount still has it new for less than a KING MAX, and used sets cost about half a new KING MAX. Choose the DS-ADAPT for strong lofts and distance if you already strike your irons fairly well; choose the KING MAX for more help on thin and heavy strikes and a higher flight.

SW 56° 65° 35.5 in 2.1 mm

After the gap wedge (GW, 50°): with a 56° sand wedge, the gap is 6°.

Callaway's iron fitting guide puts your first wedge 4° to 6° above the highest-lofted wedge in your iron set. A gap in degrees is not a gap in yards. To choose that wedge, see the forgiving wedges by loft and bounce.

Use the iron finder to compare sets for your usual miss, and check the set makeup and loft gaps before ordering. Between a game improvement and a super game improvement head, this is how to tell which one your strike needs.

The Cobra KING MAX is sold in a senior (A) flex as well as regular (R): what the senior flex changes, and who it suits.

How the 4.5 adds up
