Choose the Ai Smoke if you swing at average speed or faster.
Choose the Qi if your irons miss to the right or you need a softer flex.
Qi $899.99 · Paradym Ai Smoke $799.99, each with its shop and checked date
Two game improvement irons of the same year that their makers rate High for forgiveness, a step below the Qi HL and the Ai Smoke HL, and both score 3 of 5 here. They share a 28° 7-iron, a 32° 8-iron and a 37° 9-iron; the Qi is half a degree to a degree stronger in the 4-, 5- and 6-irons, and the Ai Smoke's PW and AW are stronger, 42° and 46° against 43° and 48°. Callaway prints 2.8 mm of offset at the Ai Smoke's 7-iron and made it for average to faster swing speeds. TaylorMade prints no offset for the Qi, but says it built the face against the right miss that most game improvement irons favour. The Ai Smoke has a hollow body; the Qi is part hollow, part cavity back. The Qi comes in senior and ladies flex; the Ai Smoke in Callaway's light flex. Both have been replaced, by the Qi Max and the Quantum Max.
TaylorMade's game improvement iron before the Qi Max, with the same 28° 7-iron. TaylorMade says it built the face against the right miss that most game improvement irons favour, and its own chart rates its forgiveness High, as it rates the Qi Max's.

TaylorMade's own chart answers it: the Qi is a game improvement iron rated High for forgiveness, the P790 a players distance iron rated Mid-High, so the Qi forgives more, and it scores 3 of 5 here against the P790's 2.
Two Callaway game improvement irons a year apart, the Ai Smoke the older, made for the same golfer, with an average to faster swing; Callaway's charts rate both High for forgiveness, both score 3 of 5 here, and its Quantum Max replaced both.
