PING G430 vs TaylorMade Qi irons

Choose the G430 if a slice is part of your miss.

Choose the Qi if you want a slightly stronger 5- to 8-iron or need a ladies flex.

G430 $949Qi $899.99, each with its shop and checked date

Both are game improvement irons a year apart, the G430 the older, and the G430 scores a little higher here, 3.5 of 5 against 3. PING prints 4.6 mm of offset at the G430's 7-iron, which gives the face more time to square up; TaylorMade prints none for the Qi, but says it built the Qi's face against the right miss that most game improvement irons favour. The Qi's lofts are a degree or so stronger from the 5- to the 8-iron (a 28° 7-iron against 29°); both have a 37° 9-iron, and then the G430's PW is the stronger, 41° against 43°, a wedge PING added to fill the gap its stronger lofts left. PING now builds the G430 only as fill-in or replacement clubs, and its G440 replaced it. Both come in senior flex; the G430 also in extra stiff, the Qi in a ladies flex.
