Irons Updated
Best irons for women
A women's iron set is a forgiving head with a softer ladies (L) shaft, and in 3 of the 4 women's lines we can set beside their men's versions, a shorter club. The PXG Women's Wildcat is the most forgiving of them ($749.95). 9 of the 44 current iron sets we cover are sold as a women's line or with a ladies flex as stock; they are all below.

What a women's set changes
- The shaft. Ladies (L) flex is the softest stock flex, made for a slower swing; it suits a woman or a man whose swing it fits. 5 of these 9 sets are women's lines; the others are sold to everyone with a ladies flex among their shafts.
- The length, and sometimes the loft. The PXG Women's Wildcat's 7-iron is the same length as the PXG Wildcat's, the Cobra Women's KING MAX's 7-iron is an inch shorter than the Cobra KING MAX's, the Srixon Women's ZXiR HL's 7-iron is an inch shorter than the Srixon ZXiR HL's and the XXIO 14 Ladies' 7-iron is an inch shorter than the XXIO 14's, with 2° more loft, by the makers' own tables. If you are tall for a women's set, the men's or unisex version with a ladies or senior flex may fit better: a fitter can check the length.
- The head. The forgiveness comes from the head, as in any set: a wide sole, offset and a high launch. The makers call the sole wide on 5 of these 9 sets.
