If you slice: the draw-biased heads
A slice comes from a face that is open to the path at impact. Inertia keeps a mishit straighter but does not close the face; heel weight does. These 12 heads carry a draw bias or a draw setting, by slice-help score:
- Tour Edge Hot Launch Max D, slice help 4.5 of 5: Heel weight and built-in offset help square the face; 10.5°, 12° or 15°. Senior flex in stock. $299.99 at Tour Edge, checked 2 Nov. See it at Tour Edge
- Tour Edge Hot Launch Max D Women's, slice help 4.5 of 5: Offset and a heel weight against a slice, in 10.5°, 12° or a 15° loft for a slow swing, on a ladies-flex shaft. Ladies only, so no senior flex. $299.99 at Tour Edge, checked 2 Nov. See it at Tour Edge
- Cobra OPTM MAX-D, slice help 4.5 of 5: An 11-gram heel weight for the most draw in Cobra's range; 10.5° or 12°. Senior flex in stock. $399 at Cobra, checked 2 Nov. Buy at Cobra
- PING G440 SFT, slice help 4.5 of 5: Back weight with Draw and Draw+ settings, about 13 and 20 yards of draw by PING's figures; 9° or 10.5°. Senior flex in stock. $447 at Golf Discount, checked 2 Nov. Check price at Golf Discount or see it at PING
- Cobra Women's OPTM MAX-D, slice help 4.5 of 5: Cobra's most draw-biased head in a women's build: 12° on a ladies-flex shaft, with a heel weight that helps the face close against a slice. Ladies only, so no senior flex. $599 at Cobra, checked 17 Oct. Buy at Cobra
- Callaway Quantum Max D, slice help 4.5 of 5: Weight built into the heel for a slight draw; 9°, 10.5° or 12°. Senior flex in stock, as Callaway's R2 (Light). $649.99 at Golf Discount, checked 2 Nov. Check price at Golf Discount or see it at Callaway
- Callaway Women's Quantum Max D, slice help 4.5 of 5: Weight built into the heel for a slight draw; 10.5° or 12°. Ladies only, so no senior flex. $649.99 at Golf Discount, checked 2 Nov. Check price at Golf Discount or see it at Callaway
- Srixon ZXi MAX, slice help 4.0 of 5: Built to fly straight with a slight draw; 9°, 10.5° or 12°. Senior flex in stock. $399.99 at Srixon, checked 2 Nov. See it at Srixon
- PING G440 MAX, slice help 4.0 of 5: Its 29-gram back weight has a draw setting; for a stronger draw, PING's G440 SFT is the slice model. Senior flex in stock. $447 at Golf Discount, checked 2 Nov. Check price at Golf Discount or see it at PING
- PING G440 K, slice help 4.0 of 5: Its tungsten back weight has a draw setting, so you can add draw help and take it out later. Senior flex in stock. $647 at Golf Discount, checked 2 Nov. Check price at Golf Discount or see it at PING

- Callaway Quantum Max, slice help 4.0 of 5: A 10-gram weight can be moved to the draw setting; the Quantum Max D has more draw built in. Senior flex in stock, as Callaway's R2 (Light). $649.99 at Golf Discount, checked 2 Nov. Check price at Golf Discount or see it at Callaway
The best driver for slicers page sets these heads side by side by the kind of draw help each gives, with their lofts and earlier models. For a first driver, the best driver for beginners and high handicappers weighs loft and price as well, and the best driver for women compares the heads made for women or sold in ladies flex.
The same families' fairway woods and hybrids carry the same draw bias where the maker sells one.
How to choose between them
Your miss first. If the ball starts straight and curves right (for a right-hander), take a draw head from the list above. If it goes everywhere, choose a high-inertia head and let inertia do the work.
Loft before brand. A slower swing needs launch, and the cheapest way to get it is loft: pick the head that offers 12 degrees, or adjusts up to it, if your driver swing is under about 85 miles per hour.
Flex is a filter, not a preference. Tick the senior or ladies chip above and the heads that do not ship in your flex disappear; a head you cannot buy in your flex is not on your list.
Then price. Between two heads that both fit and give similar help, the cheaper one wins: forgiveness between the top heads of the current lines is closer than any maker would like you to think, and the price gap is real money. A previous generation from a maker's pre-owned store is the same head for less; budget drivers lists every head by its lowest price, new and used.
If you have given up on driver. A golfer who tees off with a 3-wood because the driver goes anywhere can try a mini driver: a smaller head on a shorter shaft, easier to keep in play, though it forgives less than the heads above.
Earlier drivers, often cheaper used
Older drivers golfers still search for by name, now sold mostly used, each beside its maker's current head. The picks above choose from the current drivers only.

Questions buyers ask
What makes a driver forgiving?
Moment of inertia, mostly: the head's resistance to twisting when you hit it off centre. A head that resists twisting keeps ball speed and direction on a heel or toe strike. Makers raise it with a bigger, deeper head and weight pushed back and out to the perimeter, which is why the most forgiving driver in a line is usually the largest-looking one. The forgiveness score here reads the maker's own description of the head: its most forgiving head in the line scores 4 of 5.
What driver is best for a slicer?
A draw-biased head: weight toward the heel so the face closes more easily through impact. 12 of the 28 drivers here carry a draw bias or a draw setting; the "If you slice" section lists them by slice-help score, and the "Best for slicers" pick above is the top of that list.
Is a 9 or 10.5 driver more forgiving?
The 10.5. More loft launches the ball higher with more backspin, and backspin is what keeps a slice from curving as far; it also raises the flight, which a slower swing needs to carry the ball. A 9 degree head suits a fast swing that already launches high. For most golfers who search for a forgiving driver, 10.5 is the floor and 12 is worth trying.
What is the most forgiving driver of all?
Our pick is Cobra OPTM MAX-K at 4.0 of 5; it offers help when contact misses the centre.
What loft should a slower swing use?
More than you think. Ten and a half degrees is the common stock loft; a swing under about 85 miles per hour usually launches better at 12 degrees, and most of the heads here adjust a degree or two either way. The Lofts column lists the stock options and the slow-swing score on each club page weighs them.
What is the best used driver for slicers?
The previous generation of any draw model in the table: driver forgiveness changes little between generations while the price drops a lot, and a used draw head from a maker's pre-owned store is graded and returnable. Each club page shows a pre-owned listing where one exists.
Do forgiving drivers come in senior flex?
15 of the 28 drivers list an A (senior) flex as stock, and most of those also list L (ladies). 3 more come in Callaway's R2 (Light), the flex its buying guide calls senior. The Flexes column shows each head's stock list.
Left-handed?
24 of 28 list a left-handed head.
